“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”
Stephen King

We want all Maine kids to feel proud of their home libraries.
We want their bedside stacks to be tall and teetering.
We want the covers to be shiny and bright.
We want them to have that freshly printed page smell.
And then we want them to get dog-eared and well-worn and maybe someday that teetering stack gets so high that it topples over.
That would be just fine with us.
All avid readers know that books become friends.
Old friends, that you turn back to time and time again.
We want kids to learn that feeling, to be comforted when they glance at the strong spines of many good friends.
To remember characters who are brave, who persevere, who talk or look like them, love like them, characters who say things that they’ve never quite been able to put into words before.
We want
all Maine kids to have friends at home, worlds at their fingertips, even if they live on a dusty old dead end road in the middle of nowhere.
